Hey everyone!! My name is Mia (http://www.makepositivechanges.blogspot.com) and I am the Sketch Team Coordinator over at The Everyday Scrapper!! (http://everydayscrapper.activeboard.com/forum.spark?aBID=130411&p=35) I am soooo excited to be here today and I am beside myself thrilled to have received the August kit, La Cote d’Azure (http://www.snobbywalrus.com/monthly-kit.html) from Snobby Walrus (http://www.snobbywalrus.com/) to roll around in and drool on and play with and bring to bed with me at night…. Oh wait, I meant to say to scrap with……ahh, okay awkward. Yeah right, you all do it too. Um, basically, this kit is like heaven in a plastic bag so I would highly recommend that you get yours immediately. Like now…I’ll wait. Go. Okay, that should have allowed you sufficient time to take my most excellent advice :) So, I took that lovely kit and basically very quickly and efficiently obliterated it. I have 1 piece of paper left, 1 chipboard and 1 flower. That’s it. No joke. As soon as I get a chance to scrap again, those pieces will be gone too. Alright, so I am going to do a quick run thru of each lo I completed and there are a few video tut’s to see along the way as well. (please excuse my not so fabulous bright blue tank top and my filthy misty fingers! HAHA!!) This is just a simple lo using lots of distressing/crinkling/layering/messing…cuz that’s kinda how I roll! Anyway, the main thing I want to mention here is this: You received a bottle of smooch in your kit SO USE IT!!!! I so often throw stuff aside and just never use it. I made sure to use the smooch on almost every single lo that I did :) So that’s my big tip for this lo ~ use the contents of your kit ~ all of them!! I painted a little butterfly stamp with smooch and stamped it onto my lo, put some dots on my letters and gave the butterfly a ‘trail’ all using the smooch that came in the kit! Okay another BIG tip from me ~ before you throw anything into your garbage can, just take 2 seconds to look at it….and then think (and say out loud or in your head if you want) “can I use this to do something unique or fun?” Only after you’ve decided the answer is a big fat no then can you toss it. If you decide it can in fact be used for something, use it NOW….don’t put it away to use later, because let’s face it, you will end up with a drawer full of stuff that should be in the garbage can!!! {{lol}} If I decide not to throw something out, my rule is I have to use it on my next lo or it’s garbage :) So, when I went to throw out the sheet of empty Hambly labels….I decided to keep all the random bits and throw them down on my lo and mist over them. As you can see, the background is unlike anything that could be done unless you used random pieces of garbage! {{lol}} Okay, one more thing about this lo….if you can’t figure out from looking at it how to make that pink flower ….here is the video tutorial for it :) This is just a simple lo I did once I was getting down to a much smaller version of the original kit! HA! I don’t very often do girly lo’s so this was kinda fun for me to use some flowers and some girly colours too! One quick thing I want to remind you at this point ~ USE YOUR KIT! Here I framed the pic with the Hambly labelling strips :) because I believe in using the kit up! So get creative and USE IT!!! If you want to know how to make this flower: Then you might want to watch this video! To make this lo ~ I got out the sheet of paper strips and just took it all apart and laid the strips out on the background paper….again, this is me telling you to USE YOUR KITS! Again, I like to see everything get used, so often for me, paper strips is the way to go! I do this often as well to use up scraps! :) And, here is that flower again ~ the one that you can learn how to make in the video above! OH BOY I HAD SO MUCH FUN WITH THIS LO!!! I think that happens when the pic is brand spankin’ new too! My son had just been on his very first motorcycle ride and he was still talking about it, so I was super excited to get the pic scrapped! See how I traced the die cut paper onto this piece of kraft just to get a bit more use out of the die cut paper! It’s like using the same paper twice…kinda…or um, not really…? Okay, nevermind. I did a couple ‘techniques’ on this lo, what I call the ‘drop technique’ and also I made a pinwheel :) To learn how to make the pinwheel or to see how DIFFICULT the drop technique is, check out this video here: Another thing I’d like to mention about USING YOUR KITS is this: you know those little stars and circles and random bits you get on your letter sheets, well, um, this is me, telling you ~ just use them :) How about this circle? Isn’t it fun? I am in love and I think this is my new favourite thing to do. Want to know how to do it? Again, very difficult, but I have faith in you!!! {{sarcasm btw}} Check it out here: Well, that’s it for me, I have loved being here and hanging out with y’all and I really, really, really hope that you have found not only some inspiration but also maybe a new technique to try or an idea to check out! Thanks so much to the Snobby Walrus gang for having me here!! Enjoy the rest of your summer! XOXO ~ Mia http://www.makepositivechanges.blogspot.com/ http://www.theeverydayscrapper.com Challenge #7 08/10/2010
The past couple of weeks have been chaotic, but at last we have our next challenge up! We are still in the process of checking out everyone's layouts and projects from last month, so bear with us! Now, onto the Challenge... This Challenge is another Recipe challenge. What we do for this is give you a list of items that you need to use in your layout, pretty simple right? Here are your Ingredients: -3 types of ribbon -Stripes -the color yellow -at least one flower -Journaling directly on paper/layout Hopefully it shouldn't be too much of a challenge to use all of those in a layout! And remember, it doesn't have to be a layout necessarily, it can be a card, ATC, altered art project, whatever you choose so long as it's got some paper on it! Here's what I made: I can't wait to see what you create using this Recipe! You've got all month to participate in any of our challenges! We choose 2 winners each month, one based on random drawing, and then we choose one winner whose layout really stood out to us. The more challenges you participate in, the better your chance of winning! Just leave a link to your layout (if you link to your blog, please link to the actual blog post), or you can upload your layout/project to our image gallery (see the tab at the top under our banner) and mark it as Challenge #7. As always, our Challenges are open to the international community. We will ship out to anywhere in the world, so go ahead and play along with us! Thanks for dropping by! ~Tracy Hi, Apparently Our Post Disappeared! 08/07/2010
Hi this is Tracy! Not sure what happened to the last blog post... I guess our server got hungry and ate it? We recently discovered that a number of our packages had been stolen, meaning a lot of our winners did not receive their prizes from last month. We have already re-sent out the prizes, and rest assured, the local police have done a wonderful job and we have taken a lot of extra measures that will make our packages impossible to be stolen again, unless the postal worker himself decided to steal it, LOL! Don't worry, although things were a bit hectic here with the stolen packages, CHA, and an unusually high number of sales, we've been very busy, but in a good way! I've been trying my best to get back to everyone who has left comments of concern over the matter, and please don't hesitate to send me an email! overlord@snobbywalrus.com Thank you everyone! We have brought in a couple new people to the Snobby Walrus team during this time, so all our regular store orders and kit orders are still shipping out by next business day, so you can rest assured that there aren't any delays in shipping during this busy time! Challenge #6 07/17/2010
Hi everyone! We've been clearing the way for CHA (very exciting), so we weren't able to get Challenge #6 up sooner, but here it is now! The talented Sarah Slade created this lovely sketch for us! Flip it, invert it, make it your own unique interpretation! You can make this whatever size you want, and if you want to use this sketch for a card, that's fine also! It doesn't even have to be a layout =) We can't wait to see what your creations inspired by this sketch! Remember, you have ALL MONTH to play along with any of our challenges for July! Play along with one, or with all 4 of our weekly challenges! Your due date for any/all challenges is JULY 31st. Either leave a comment here with a link to your project, or upload your project to our image gallery, marked as Challenge #6 (or 4, or 5... etc.) At the end of the month, we choose 2 winners who will win fabulous RAKs from us! One winner is chosen by random drawing (with one entry per challenge you participate in, up to 4 entries a month!), and the other winner is someone we choose whose layout or project really stood out to us! Also, if you want to COMBINE our challenges, that is perfectly fine, and it will still count as you participating in those challenges. (for example, you can use Ink in the layout you make for Challenge #4, which is a humor-based layout, and you'd still get 2 entries in our drawing for the RAK) Just have it marked as all the challenges that you are combining, so we know to count it for each one ! ALL OUR CHALLENGES ARE OPEN TO THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY! =) Thanks for stopping by everyone, and have a great weekend! ~Tracy Tutorial: Crackle Paint 07/15/2010
Hello everyone! I'm Catherine from The Everyday Scrapper and I'm here with a tutorial on different uses for Tim Holtz's Rock Candy Crackle Paint. First, you're going to spread on a medium layer of paint over your surface. For my first example, I'm going to use chipboard. Here, you can see three things. Bottom center: chipboard that is painted with a medium layer of paint, about halfway through the drying process. Top right: chipboard that has been inked with Tim Holtz ink, then painted with the Crackle paint (still wet). At at the upper right hand corner, you can see how all of that compares to naked chipboard. My paint took about 45 minutes to dry. Then it looked like this: You can clearly see the little cracks in the chipboard. It looks very pretty as-is, and can be used this way. I decided to rub in (with my finger) some Tim Holtz distress ink. That gave the cracks a lot of dimension. Then I attached that to my LO, which was made using almost exclusively materials found from the Snobby Walrus shop. Then I wanted to play with paper flowers and see what would happen. Here is my flower, covered in dried crackle paint: You can see the cracks well in this photo. I wanted to create even more cracks for the ink to fill, so I crumpled up my flower... It's fantastic how malleable the paper was even after being dried with the crackle paint. I had no problems crumpling it and fixing the flower petals to the shape I wanted. Again, using my finger rubbed into directly into the ink, I rubbed the ink from my finger along the flower. I preferred using my finger because it gives the most control over the color, letting you spread exactly the quantity you want exactly where you want it. I think that came out pretty well! I was also curious to see how the ink would look on regular patterned paper. It was subtle once dry, and it did turn up the corners... but for a distress, vintage look that is going to be layered onto another piece of paper or cardstock, I would recommend it. Then I put everything onto my LO: Once the chipboard, which I had inked first, then applied crackle paint to, was dry, I adhered that to my LO as well. It gave a darker, wet-looking effect with more subtle cracks: I hope you'll be inspired to pick up some Crackle Paint from Snobby Walrus and play around with it! Let me know how it turns out by visiting The Everyday Scrapper or following us on Twitter. See you soon! Catherine Challenge #5 07/09/2010
Hi everyone! Tracy here! I've got your next Snobby Walrus Scrap Challenge! The Smooch tutorial should have probably tipped you off... For Challenge #5, let's see some INK or PAINT on your layout! The ink can be Smooch, ink from an ink pad, India Ink... any kind of ink at all! Or paint! Crackle paint, craft paint, watercolor... get as creative as you like with this! And if you need some ideas, check out the Smooch Ink Tutorial Here is what I did for this challenge: Talking about ink and paint made me of course think of canvas! (I like to oil paint, so I have a LOT of canvas lying around). I made a small mini album (we're talking REALLY small, 3"x3") with 2 framed canvases for my covers, and gaffer tape to "bind" them together. The frames create little "shadow boxes" inside when you open the cover, and I used Smooch Ink "Ocean Soul" to paint the inside of it. So pull out those brushes and get messy!!! I can't wait to see what YOU make! You have ALL MONTH to play along with any of our challenges for July! Play along with one, or with all 4 of our weekly challenges! Your due date for any/all challenges is JULY 31st. Either leave a comment here with a link to your project, or upload your project to our image gallery, marked as Challenge #4 (or 5, or 6... etc.) At the end of the month, we choose 2 winners who will win fabulous RAKs from us! One winner is chosen by random drawing (with one entry per challenge you participate in, up to 4 entries a month!), and the other winner is someone we choose whose layout or project really stood out to us! Also, if you want to COMBINE our challenges, that is perfectly fine, and it will still count as you participating in both challenges. (for example, you can use Ink in the layout you make for Challenge #4, which is a humor-based layout, and you'd still get 2 entries in our drawing for the RAK) Just have it marked as BOTH challenges, so we know to count it twice! ALL OUR CHALLENGES ARE OPEN TO THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY! =) Thanks for stopping by everyone, and have a great weekend! ~Tracy Tutorial: Smooch! 07/04/2010
Hello scrappers! I'm Juliann. i am a website contributor/sketch team member for The Everyday Scrapper. Today I'm going to share with you some ideas for using all those Smooch Inks you've bought from Snobby Walrus Paper Crafts and are not sure how to use them! You can do so many things with Smooch: 1. color in stamped images 2. use as stamp ink (just brush onto your stamp) 3. paint on chipboard 4. add glitz to stickers 5. enhance your pattern paper Here is a page I made using Smooch, and a bonus tutorial on how to make dimensional grass on your LO! Now lets grab some supplies! Cut strips into your paper, add adhesive to the back, and fold down "grass", alternating the height. Add ink if desired! Smooch is just like pain, don't fear it!! It even has its own brush! Brush Smooch onto your chipboard letters (or any chipboard, even the edges) Brush Smooch right on to your cardstock stickers Now wasn't that easy and fun!!!!???!!! Now run to order some Smooch from the Snobby Walrus!!! Only $3.59 a bottle, and that is the everyday price, not a sale! (normally retails for $4.49) Then come visit us at the everyday scrapper, you can also follow us on Facebook or Twitter (EverydayScrap) Juliann Marchant Mom to Alexa Wil and Gavin http://scrappylife.blogspot.com/ Style Spotlight and June Challenge Winners! 07/04/2010

Here at Snobby Walrus, we like to find the humor in things. I wanted to play off the challenge last month when "Bella" from The Twilight Saga was my challenge inspiration. So, take this as a quick example: One of the most funniest ways to throw in some humor when scrapbooking is through the journaling aspect of it. We want to see what "wording" you can put to your pictures to make them LOL hillarious! Remember, you have all month to play along. We give you one new challenge every week to keep you inspired and to keep you creating and you have until the end of the month to work on each and every one of them. You can either leave a direct link in each of the comment sections or submit your creation in the Snobby Walrus Gallery and put Challenge #4 in the subject line. Here's my inspiration layout for you in July. I don't know what the reason was, but when my baby girl was 2 years old, she would not for the life of her, relax her feet on the sides of her 4-wheeler. Her feet were always to the side, held high, like so. So, it was only natural for me to title this LO "This is how I roll!" LOL Play along to this challenge and be entered into the prize drawing at the end of the month when not 1, but 2 winners will be announced. xoxo Lynnette Davis ***Note from Tracy: Hi, we are looking through all of our fabulous entries for the month of June, and will have the winners chosen next week and announced right here on the blog, so make sure to check back! One layout will be chosen by random number generator, and one layout will be chosen based on style! Also, we will have our Style Spotlight Winners chosen on July 4th! You have until midnight July 3rd to leave comments on our Style Spotlight blog posts for a chance to win some great new My Mind's Eye products! You can just click on Style Spotlight under the Categories on the right hand side to play along! Thank you everyone! We can't wait to pick some winners and mail out some RAKs! =) Style Spotlight: Designer Crackers 07/01/2010
